Nikasha`s Fall/Winter 2007 collection "The Urban Myth" draws inspiration from the ethnic tribal prints of Orissa (Saura, Godaba & the Bonda Tribes). Indian prints and textiles that have garnered a mass and a global appeal are used in interesting variations keeping in mind the international trends. The collection symbolizes a synergy of modern bohemia. The silhouettes stimulate the raw edginess of a woman which echoes the urban tones. This helps in translating the entire collection into a futuristic Fall/Winter look. Handlooms woven with textured fabrics with a burst of interesting prints like that of the mini hand rickshaws, stamps, tiger print, and others developed on fabrics from lurex to lycra. Strong cuts, controlled volume, fine pleats, pin tuck details combined with a body armour embroidery feel in multi-stranded beads, spikes, chains, coin work, shells and animal claws generously used to create an edgy chic ensemble. The colour palette includes jewel colours in plums, sapphires, ruby reds and emerald greens used in variations in contrast with bold metallic colours from gold, pewter, silver to bronze; dictating the strong metropolitan myth. The collection boasts of easy drapes, smock tops, smock layered dresses, fitted jackets, off-shoulder tunics among others. Here is a strong European influence slightly softened by relaxed layering in a world of mix and match patterns in a easy chic attire with just a modest hint of shimmer and sparkle. |
